Gyula Csepregi

Csepregi Gyula He started his studies at the then Music Academy in 1980. A year later he appeared in the band of Gyula Kovács, known as Hungary's most famed drummer of the time.
From 1982 he started performing with nearly all the leading jazz musicians. Imre Kőszegi, Gyula Babos, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Aladár Pege are just a few of the names that gladly invite him to play with them.
Also the pop world takes interest in him at this time: he is quickly lionized and plays as soloist on the side of Hungarian pop stars as Gábor Presser or Bikini. There is almost not one pop performer who has not invited him to play as soloist on his album.
As a result his name can be seen on more than five hundred Hungarien light musical products. At the same time, he started to account ever growing number of international successes in jazz, as well. He toured whole of Scandinavia with different local and American musicians. It was then that his name began to be known in England and Germany, too, thanks to ever more and more invitations to play as a soloist with international big bands. Between 1982 and 1984 was a member of Aldár Pege's group, with whome he toured around Europe.
In 1984 he formes perhaps the most successful Hungarian jazz band of all times, the Hungarian Jazz Quartet with Pál Vasvári, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos and Vilmos Jávori. Their record, "New Age" was the Hungarian jazz record with probably the greatest number of copies sold. This band achieved several successes abroad, as well, in the middle of the eighties it was counted as one of of the most popular groups in Europe. Gyula Csepregi got his first eMeRTon award at this time.
Since 1988 he has been a member of the Hungarian Radio's dance orchestra, the Studio 11.
A year later he formed "In Line" with Pál Vasvári, considered as the most successful Hungarian jazz group by the public not much later. His first solo album titled "In Line" was released at this time (1990). The band ';In Line'; made more than 15 albums and they were more successful abroad than in Hungary.
He is a member of an international "All Stars" band, in which his world famous partners are guitarist Mike Stern, vibraphonist Dave Samuels (Spyro Gyra), pianist Russel Ferrante (from the Grammy award winner band Yellow Jackets), and the drummer of the legendary Weather Report, Alex Acuna. Almost all the saxophonists, who have nowadays acquired fame, began their career as his student at the Ferenc Liszt Music University.
As a soloist he always belonged to the experimenting kind of musicians, those seeking for new ways: he wandered also onto the field of symphonic music (Budapest Concert Blowers), but - as his new album proves - he is also at home in the field of pop music. The album is also a clear proof of what several critics have expressed about him as:
Gyula Csepregi is the Hungarian saxophonist who plays most to the heart. In his wonderful music the emotions of the widest range combine with the excellent technical knowledge. He is a founding member of HSP.
